VOLUNTEERING
& APPRENTICING
VOLUNTEERING Do you want to learn about urban
agriculture? Are you excited to see where your tomatoes come from? Maybe
you just want to spend your day getting your hands dirty in the sun! At
Kansas City Center for Urban Agriculture (KCCUA), we offer a wide range of
opportunities for volunteers of all types and interests. As a volunteer with KCCUA you could:
The sense of accomplishment
looking at a freshly weeded bed or carrying in a tote full of potatoes
makes the volunteer experience at KCCUA enjoyable and rewarding! COMING
UP: The next “Work the Farm” volunteer day is Saturday, July 24th at
the Juniper Gardens Farm Business Development Program Training Farm from
10AM to 2 PM. Email Ami Freeberg at ami@kccua.org with questions and to
RSVP. MONTHLY VOLUNTEER EVENTS: We host monthly
“Work the Farm” volunteer days on the fourth Saturday of every month.
The events will alternate between the Kansas City Community Farm, the
Juniper Gardens Farm Business Development Program and other affiliate
farms to give our volunteers the opportunity to learn about and contribute
to a range of
diverse farms. MORE INDIVIDUALIZED VOLUNTEER
OPPORTUNITIES: Some of our volunteers come out for a day and others come
out every week through the farming season. We encourage volunteers who
want to learn more about the farming process to set up a regular time to
come out each week in order to participate in a wider variety of
activities and training. Come prepared to get dirty and please wear
closed-toe shoes! At the Center for Urban
Agriculture we also need volunteers to assist us with many activities:
Please call Ami Freeberg at
(913)-944-5639 or email volunteering@kccua.org
if you would like to contribute your skills to our growing organization or
with any questions about volunteering. We greatly appreciate your interest
and support! APPRENTICESHIPS In 2010, we will have four paid Apprenticeship positions. We also have unpaid Apprenticeship positions. Apprenticeships, both paid and unpaid, are appropriate for people who are interested in various aspects of local, organic vegetable, herb, small fruit, and honey production. In 2010, the farm is working again with the Growing Growers Training Program to add a level of structured learning to the hands-on experience the farm offers. For more information, visit www.growinggrowers.org. Please call us at 913-831-2444 or email alicia@kccua.org. We'll set up a time for you to come out to the farm and talk with us about your interests and skills and our needs and expectations. |
